BLACKSBURG — The Blacksburg Bruins, ranked No. 1 in the country by rivals.com, shut out Tunstall 9-0 in the Region IV tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Blacksburg scored 35 seconds into the match and built a 5-0 lead by halftime.

“They were what they were supposed to be,” said Tunstall coach Eddy Lloyd, who added that Blacksburg was the best team the Trojans faced all season.
“It was very difficult to compete with them.”

Tim Becker, Daniel Mitchell and Daniel Sumner each scored two goals for the Bruins (19-0).

The loss eliminates Tunstall (11-6-1) from the postseason, which saw the Trojans place third in the Piedmont District tournament and host and win their first Region IV tournament games.
