CONCORD, N.C.—Denny Hamlin, who was injured during a crash at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, has withdrawn from tomorrow night’s Nationwide Dollar General 300.

The former Chesterfield County resident expects to compete in Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Hamlin, last among the 12 Chase for the Cup qualifiers, will start 12th after tonight’s scheduled Sprint Cup qualifying was canceled because of rain.

Hamlin, who will be replaced by Dave Blaney in the Nationwide race, said doctors are still concerned about the headache he has as a result of his crash in the AMP Energy 500.

“I definitely still feel it—that’s for sure,“ Hamlin said. “It was definitely the hardest hit that I’ve ever had.

“My head got hit pretty good, so I had some neurologists look at it and decide that we need to take it easy for a little while. We’re going to be OK for Saturday night’s race, but there’s only one way to tell and that’s to get on the racetrack.“
