WHITE HOUSE (AP) - President Bush talked to members of the Giants organization today, congratulating them for last night’s 17-14 Super Bowl victory over the Patriots.
The nation’s chief executive stayed up past his normal bedtime to watch the end of the game, which wasn’t settled until the final horn sounded after 10 p.m. Eastern time. He spoke with Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch, coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning, the game’s Most Valuable Player.
New York ended New England’s bid for an unprecedented 19-0 season after entering the game as double-digit underdogs. The Giants scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown with less than one minute to play when Manning found receiver Plaxico Burress alone in the end zone from 13 yards out.
