ASHBURN—Washington Redskins rookie wide receiver Devin Thomas suffered a pulled hamstring in his right leg in today’s morning practice and is expected to be out at least two weeks.
“Maybe three,” said Redskins head coach Jim Zorn. “This is his first pull. We don’t know how he heals. After two weeks, we’ll look at him. He may be ready in two weeks.”
Thomas was the Redskins first draft choice last spring. He was taken in the second round, the 34th selection overall.
Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn knew his players were reaching a point where nagging little injuries might start to occur.
He said he thought about knocking on wood last night for good luck, hoping the team could continue to avoid the small injuries.
Zorn should have knocked on that wood.
This morning, rookie wide receiver Devin
Thomas was injured this morning when he ran a deep route, could not hold on to the pass and fell to the ground.
Also this morning, backup defensive end Chris Wilson strained his calf and did not practice the rest of the day.
Starting safety LaRon Landry said he “tweaked” a hamstring yesterday, and he did not take part in the team portion of practice this morning.
Defensive end Jason Taylor walked off the field with a forearm heavily wrapped in ice. Zorn said that was precautionary.
The comic relief of the morning was offered by cornerback Fred Smoot, of course. Smoot was not on the field during a series of plays by the offense, but he made his presence known by constantly yelling at the offensive players, particularly Casey Rabach, the starting center.
As Smoot’s unit ran onto the field, fullback Mike Sellers grabbed Smoot and lifted him off the ground for a moment. Even then, Smoot did not stop talking.
