ASHBURN—Justin Hamilton, a free safety who played at Virginia Tech and is a native of Clintwood in southwest Virginia, has been added to the Washington Redskins’ roster.

The 6-foot-3, 222-pound Hamilton played three seasons for the Hokies at running back and wide receiver before moving to safety for his senior season.

He was a seventh-round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns in 2006. He had 15 tackles during his rookie season, but did not make the team in 2007 and did not play in the NFL last season.

The Redskins signed Hamilton during the off-season, then cut him on May 30.

Meantime, here today, gone tomorrow took on a whole new meaning for Pete Schmitt. Schmitt, a fullback/tight end, was signed by the Washington Redskins on Monday. He was released today to make room for Hamilton.
