ROANOKE, Va. – The Northside Vikings are the newest contender to emerge out of the competitive boys soccer scene. They finished the regular season at 16-0 and appear ready to make some hay this postseason. During his eight-year tenure coach Ryan Schilling has guided the program from worst to first in the Blue Ridge.
The Vikings have netted 86 goals but have only allowed 4 at the other end. The team is filled with mostly juniors and sophomores that have bought into the system.
"It's been pretty special for us, explains head coach Ryan Schilling. I knew in the beginning of the season we had a good team. I didn't think we'd have a 16-0 team but I definitely was impressed with the boys. They have shown they've worked hard in tryouts and definitely put forth the effort," said Schilling.
"We kind of have a bigger target on our backs now and we just have to make sure we keep the same mentality we had during the season, which was one game at a time," says Vikings senior Nick St. Pierre.
The Vikings will open conference 32 play tomorrow in a semifinal game against the winner of the Alleghany-Rockbridge County contest.
