Hokies fall to Highlanders at Calfee Park

PULASKI (via Hokiesports.com) – The Virginia Tech baseball team scheduled two games of the 2016 season at historic Calfee Park and in the first of them took place there on Wednesday night with the Radford Highlanders getting the better of the Hokies and winning the nonconference contest, 5-1.

Radford used a three-run bottom of the second to break a 1-1 tie and held Tech scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win.

Keeping Radford close in the later frames were Connor Coward (3.0 innings pitched, one earned run, three strikeouts) and Nic Enright, who retired all nine batters he faced. At one point, he struck out five straight batters which including striking out the side in the eighth.

Highlanders' Tyler Swarmer improved to 2-2 this season with the win, while Culver Hughes, who made his first career start for Tech, suffered the loss and is 0-1.
