Hokies Divine Deablo making strides on defense

Deablo's move from wide receiver to defensive back has been a productive one.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – One of the most notable position changes from last year to this year is Divine Deablo's move from wide receiver to defensive back, a change the coaches are confident with.

"Highly intelligent, tough competitive kid that has been blessed with some pretty special athletic tools. I felt good though he hasn't done it since high school really, I shouldn't say good, I felt optimistic that it had a chance to work," head coach Justin Fuente explained.

Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster added, "Divine has been everything we hoped for. He's been very consistent, very steady, has improved every day, has been physical. I've been real pleased with his coverage ability."

Deon Newsome, a player who also moved from offense to defense, has been a resource for Deablo.

"We all try to help make that transition more smoothly because when I made the transition it wasn't terribly hard but just reading and memorizing the plays, what coverages, it's just a lot coming from offense," said Newsome.

The Virginia Tech spring game is set for 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 22.
