WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington Nationals won their ninth straight game when pinch-hitter Anthony Rendon singled home Bryce Harper in the ninth inning Wednesday night for a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Harper opened the ninth with a single off Evan Marshall and went to third base on Kevin Frandsen's one-out single.

CHICAGO (AP) - Nelson Cruz took the major league lead with his 33rd home run and the surging Baltimore Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 4-3 win Wednesday night. Adam Jones and Steve Pearce also homered for the Orioles, who have won four straight.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden is both understanding and a little perplexed by Robert Griffin III's inability to execute a graceful slide. Gruden said Wednesday that Griffin "needs to be a bit more fluid" when it comes to sliding, even though that can be tough to do in open field when players are flying around.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Bud Foster loves that Hokies fans are calling Virginia Tech "DBU," or Defensive Back U. The Hokies' long-time defensive coordinator can reel off a list of names that support the moniker. DeAngelo Hall. Brandon Flowers. Kam Chancellor. All three have become NFL Pro Bowlers.
