Colder today, below normal temps through Easter

Updated:

Temperatures typical of Valentine's Day and not mid April will rule today.  Temperatures will moderate for Easter, but still be below normal.

Despite sunny skies today, highs will only make it into the middle 50s.  Our normal high this time of year is now 73.  Breezes will be out of the northeast 8 to 15 miles per hour.

With clear skies on tap for tonight and a continued cold flow out of the northeast, lows will be near freezing again by Thursday morning.  So a Freeze Warning will be in effect for early Thursday for most areas of central North Carolina west of I-95, including the Triangle.  A freeze warning means freezing temperatures are likely. These conditions could damage crops and other warm season vegetation.  The low by Thursday morning is forecast to be around 32.

Thursday will be mostly sunny and not as chilly with a high of 62 in the afternoon.

Skies will become mostly cloudy on Friday with highs in the middle 60s.  Low pressure will skirt by to our south Friday night and there could be some rain Friday night into early Saturday.  Lows Friday night will be in the upper 40s.

The low pressure system should move out to sea on Saturday, and after a slight risk of early morning rain, clouds should decrease.  The high on Saturday will be around 70.

Easter Sunday is looking pleasant, with mostly sunny skies and a high around 70.  For sunrise services, temperatures Sunday morning will start out in the middle to upper 40s.  Sunrise on Sunday is 6:36 a.m.

Easter Monday will be partly sunny with highs staying in the lower 70s.  A cold front could give us a few showers by Tuesday with mostly cloudy skies.  Highs on Tuesday will be around 70.
