Monday Mythbuster: Cardio recommendations

Myth : New recommendations are one hour each day for weight loss.

True

Dr. Ally Bowersock, Director of Exercise Science for Jefferson College of Health Sciences says, "The new recommendations for weight loss are 60 minutes every day of the week. If you are just trying to maintain weight thirty minutes is probably fine. It really depends on your fitness goals. The reason they specify sixty minutes is because enough people don't do enough high intensity training in terms of cardio and strength training to lose weight. They have increased the duration of the recommendation to try to encourage people to get enough intensity."

Please don't let this discourage you, because any exercise is good exercise. If you are making healthy choices in your diet and you feel better that is important.

Check with your doctor before starting an exercise program.
