TUESDAY UPDATE: The Office of the Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity of the man found Monday as Sean P. Daly, 42, of Lovingston.

Daly was found about three-tenths of a mile from his home, Virginia State Police said in a news release. Authorities said there is no indication of traumatic injury.

EARLIER: Virginia Department of Transportation crews discovered the body of an unidentified 42-year-old white man while cutting right-of-way on U.S. 29 on Monday afternoon.

The body was located over an embankment not far from a residential area called Cannery Loop, north of Lovingston, said Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks. The man’s name was not released pending notification of his family.

The cause of death is unknown although Brooks expects to learn more from the medical examiner later this week. The body is currently at the medical examiner’s office in Richmond.

The man had been missing for five or six days and a missing persons report had just been filed on him Monday morning.

“There’s no reason to believe that any foul play was involved,” Brooks said. “There was a medical history associated with the gentleman.”
