VINTON - An NFL star from the Roanoke Valley gives his mother a surprise four days before mother's day.
Cave Spring and University of Virginia graduate Ronde Barber came to Vinton to help honor his mother, Geraldine Barber-Hale.
She received the inaugural Affordable Housing Advocacy Award, which recognizes people who have excelled in grassroots advocacy and talked with local leaders about affordable housing.
"My mom deserves a lot of things she is a pretty inspiring woman not only to me and my friends and family but to a lot of other people. I think she's pretty compassionate in her time. She has given a lot back to this community," Barber said.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro cornerback has played 13 season in the NFL. He made four interceptions last year, and has 37 total for his career.
