Liberty University recently received a $474,000 gift from a Martinsville man and longtime supporter of the school who died last November.
Floyd William Smith, 96, never visited Liberty’s campus, but “loved the political stands” of the school’s founder, the Rev. Jerry Falwell, according to an LU news release.
Smith worked as an automobile mechanic and during World War II was a first-class machinist and master mechanic at the Naval Gun Factory in Washington, D.C.
Smith did not specify how the gift must be used. He also left $550,000 to Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville.
