From Roanoke Fire-EMS:

"On February 11, 2008, Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a structure fire at 3768 Parliament Rd., Summer Tree Apartments. The call came into the E-911 Center at approximately 7:05 a.m. Over 51 Fire-EMS personnel responded to the scene.

Investigation Crews have been on scene all day trying to determine the cause. The fire was caused by smoking materials and has been ruled accidental. The fire started in an upstairs bedroom of one of the apartments. The fire then extended into the attic of the apartment building, finally burning through the roof.

Seven apartments sustained heavy damage and the building they were housed in has been condemned. Nine adults and seven children are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Others displaced are being relocated by the apartment complex or are staying with friends or relatives.
