Thousands answer casting call for 'Iron Man 3' in Raleigh

With casting set to begin in just days, more details are emerging about the types of extras the "Iron Man 3" production is looking to cast.

While production on the film isn't set to begin until after the release of Marvel Studios' highly anticipated comic book hero collaboration film "The Avengers" in May, pre-production is well underway and the casting of extras began Saturday in Raleigh.

The Tona B. Dahlquist Casting Company held calls for the "Major Motion Picture 'CAGED HEAT" – the working title for “Iron Man 3” – on Saturday at Crabtree Valley Mall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Another session will be held April 21 at Independece Mall in Wilmington between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

While previously the agency had said they were looking for extras of "all types, all ages and all ethnic descents," the Tona B. Dahlquist Casting Company has since better explained which types of roles they are looking to fill.

Specifically, the company is looking for mostly extras who are 18 years of age and older. Also, the company says there is "a special need for those of Chinese and Asian descents, as well Middle Eastern, Indian, Persian, Latino, Hispanic, Vietnamese, Hawaiian, Jamaican, Lebanese descents."

"A very multi-cultural mix of extras is needed," the company announced in a casting call.

Interestingly, the call also specifies that the company is looking to cast "identical twins" between the ages of 12 and 14, though the call sheet said they are looking for both boys and girls.

Also, the production is seeking "artsy and/or eccentric types, computer geek types, professor types, business professionals (men and women), upscale preppy types, those with unusual hair, piercing or facial hair."

"Production will also be in need of attractive business types with luxury vehicles," the company added.

Needless to say, the production is looking to cast a broad spectrum of people for the film, which supports a claim made in November by Premier Casting that "Iron Man 3" will utilize about 1,000 extras during filming.

Interested parties were asked to bring a current, non-returnable snapshot. If you can't attend one of the castings, email a photo -- must be in the email body and not an attachment -- to cagedheatextras@gmail.com. Be sure to include your name, age, city and state you reside in, height, weight, clothing sizes, phone number, and make, model and color of you vehicle.

That "Iron Man 3" will shoot under the working title "Caged Heat" may be meaningless – much like Michael Bay's "Prime Directive" title for the "Transformers" trilogy – but that hasn't stopped comic book fans from speculating. Many have been quick to point to the title’s similarity to Marvel superhero Luke Cage and the fact that the latest "Iron Man" film may be used as a vehicle to launch a Luke Cage spin-off.

Shane Black will take over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two "Iron Man" films. Black's credits include 2005's "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which also starred Robert Downey Jr.

"Iron Man 3" stars Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson and Don Cheadle. On Monday The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Sir Ben Kingsley is in talk to play a villain in the film, however he "will not be the primary villain, according to insiders, and it is not clear what role he will play."

The film is set for release Memorial Day weekend 2013.
