Alleghany High School students to honor Staunton River High School teens killed

Alleghany High School students are making a difference for a competing school overcoming the loss of several teenagers.

At the end of last year, Staunton River High School in Bedford County lost three students in car crashes within a week of each other.

Learning of the tragedies Alleghany students decided they wanted to do something to help, so they built a memorial bench with the names of the lives lost engraved on it.

One AHS student says the gift is a symbol of the Mountaineer spirit.

"That no matter what if we see you somebody hurting we're going to do what we can to help them. And we'll find creative ways of doing it," said Stephen Taylor, Vice President of the National Honor Society.

The students planned to hand over the bench to Staunon River during a boys basketball game a couple weeks ago, but it was canceled because of bad weather, so they hope to do it soon.
