Roanoke fire causes $7500 in damage after flower pot was used as an ashtray

A Saturday morning fire has been ruled as accidental.

Roanoke Fire- EMS responded to a fire in the 800 block of 2nd St., SW. about 7:12 a.m. The fire was under control at 7:21. 

When crews arrived they found a fire in the front of the building. The fire has been ruled as accidental and investigators say it was caused by a flowerpot on the front porch that was used as an ashtray. A fire started in the pot and spread to the building.

Six people were in the building when the fire started. One person was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Damage estimates are approximately $7,500.
