Texting scam targets bank accounts

AMHERST COUNTY, VA -

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is warning people throughout Central Virginia of a texting scam targeting bank accounts.

Investigators say people have received these text messages from a variety of organizations, each suggesting immediate attention to an account. Once the victim calls the phone number, he/she is asked for their 16 digit card number for verification.

Investigators want those who receive these text messages to simply delete them.
