Roanoke City Police search for 9th Street stabbing suspect

ROANOKE, VA -
Roanoke City Police are searching for a stabbing suspect.
Officers say a 41-year-old man who works at the Dollar General store on Garden City Boulevard, spotted a man on Sunday, who he had previously seen shoplifting from the store. The man told police he followed the suspected shoplifter on his bicycle from 9th Street to the intersection of Gainsboro Road and Gilmer Avenue.
The victim told investigators the suspect then walked up to him, and stabbed him multiple times.
The victim somehow got away, rode to the intersection of Elm Avenue and Jefferson Street, and flagged down a patrol officer.
Police described the stabbing suspect as:
Black man between 50-60 years old
Has a beard
Large black jacket
Blue jeans
White sneakers
Carrying a black & brown backpack

During the enforcement period, Roanoke County Police issued approximately 1,000 traffic citations. More than 180 of them -- nearly 20 percent -- were for seatbelt violations.
