Jewelry owned by Elizabeth Taylor, other stars on display in Roanoke

Frantz Diamonds in Roanoke says it strives to help their clients build up very special and unique jewelry collections.  And it doesn't get more special or unique than an unusual sale the store is having Tuesday.

"We are so excited," said Sherry Frantz, owner of Frantz Diamonds.  "Every single lady that works here -- for us, this is a dream come true.  We drool when we look at these pieces."

Frantz is teaming up with New York based Singer Estate -- a well-respected company that deals in estate and antique jewelry --  for a one day sale.

"We have $2 million in jewelry that will be here from the 1800's all the way to fairly recent," said Frantz.

The crown jewels of the collection are about a dozen pieces that once adorned the wrists, hand, necks, and ears of some of the biggest names in Hollywood -- including a custom made watch that once belonged to John Wayne.

"What makes it really neat is -- true to John Wayne's style -- it says 5pm at every hour on this watch," said Frantz.

There's also a necklace that belonged to Cher, cuff links given to Robert Goulet by Ronald Reagan, a pocket watch Bon Jovi lead guitarist Richie Sambora gave to guitar legend Les Paul, and a peridot cuff that graced the wrist of a "little known actress" named Elizabeth Taylor.

"These pieces are very rare," said Frantz.  "To have four pieces from Elizabeth Taylor in Roanoke, when we all know she was the biggest star in the history of celebrities, is amazing," said Frantz.

Every one those items is for sale, though they'll cost you a pretty penny.  But even if Bob Hope's watch isn't in your budget --

"Please come," said Frantz.  "You don't have to buy anything.  Just come and have fun."

The celebrity pieces make up just a small portion of the all the jewelry that will be on sale.  The majority of those items will be much more affordable, starting at around $500.

The antique and estate sale will take place Tuesday from 10:00am - 6:00pm at Frantz Diamonds.  The store is located at 3540 Electric Road (near the intersection of Electric & Colonial).
