Ready to Run

MARTINSVILLE, VA -

Charlotte Motor Speedway is usually a place filled with celebration but not for Mike Gravely, two years ago.

He explains, "I started having pain in my chest started into my shoulder and I thought I just don't feel right."

He was having a heart attack and now he is trying to get in better shape.

He says, "I've got a four year old daughter and a 9 month old son along with my wife. I have got to quit making excuses not to be active.   I looked at half marathon and thinking, could I run this?  Two years ago I had a heart attack and was getting up in weight and wanting to get healthy."

He can and so can you Rebecca Adcock is the Wellness Director for the Martinsville YMCA.

She says, changing up the surfaces we run on can help make runs more exciting and reduce the risk for injury.

Adcock says "I think if they can finish a 5k or half marathon they look back and say if I can do that, then I can do anything that life throws my way. "

Find out more about the upcoming races at the end of March in Martinsville.
