Campbell Co. Sheriff's Office news release
It has come to the attention of the Campbell County Sheriff's Office that various of out-of-state marketers are contacting local businesses and either identifying themselves as working with/for the Sheriff's Office or indicating that the Sheriff's Office supports their solicitation.
These companies produce and distribute refrigerator magnets with business ads on them. While they appear to be legitimate agencies, they do not have permission to use the Campbell County Sheriff's Office name or to list any association with the Sheriff's Office in their solicitations; they have been asked to stop any marketing that refers to the Sheriff's Office in their requests for funds.
Sheriff Steve Hutcherson, however, has authorized the following to use the name of the Campbell County Sheriff's Office when attempting to sell advertisements:
The
three agencies listed above do not represent themselves as Sheriff's Office
employees and some will have a signed letter of consent to allow solicitation
on behalf of the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.
Unfortunately,
it is necessary in these economic times to raise funds through many means. The National Child Safety Council utilizes
the funds received to provide brochures, handouts, etc. that can distributed to
youth and citizens of Campbell County for educational purposes. The VA Sheriff's Institute solicits funds to
provide scholarships for Campbell County students who plan to attend VA
colleges and study criminal justice in anticipation of becoming a law
enforcement officer.
"I'm pleased to say that Campbell County students have benefited from these scholarships for the past 15 years," said Sheriff Hutcherson, regarding support generated from the VA Sheriff's Institute. "We just want to ensure that citizens know which agencies have our consent to raise funds using our Office name toward the causes we deem as appropriate."
If anyone receives a solicitation for funds which seems questionable or raises concerns, please do not consent to give to that agency until calling the Sheriff's Office at 434-332-9580 (non-emergency number) to confirm its legitimacy.
