Blacksburg dance studio opens on heels of IMAX theater announcement

BLACKSBURG, VA -

It may seem like just another ballet studio with little feet crossing the floor, but Blacksburg town leaders hope "Little Leapers" is the first of many businesses in a while to jump at the opportunity to locate to the town's First and Main shopping center.

"I think it's just an example of what's to come. We'll have not only retailers and restaurants here but also studios," said Krisha Chachra, a member of Blacksburg's town council.

Little Leapers has been open for a few weeks now, but town leaders cut the ribbon and officially opened the studio Thursday afternoon. It is the first-ever tenant at the shopping center that caters specifically to kids. Studio owner, Heather Leeper is hoping this becomes a destination for the entire family.

"This is a really great place because parents can go shopping, they can go eat, they can grab a glass of wine while their kids are in class," said Leeper.

The addition to the complex comes on the heels of an announcement to bring an IMAX theater to serve as the anchor tenant. Leaders believe the mere anticipation of that project could be starting a domino effect at First and Main.

"I do believe there's some momentum building and economic recovery," said Catherine Sutton, Executive Director of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

"It's relieving to know that Blacksburg is moving forward with this project and you know, obviously, I'm a Hokie so I support anything in growth in this area," said Leeper.

As for the ballet business, their next step will be to expand and open a store very soon  in Roanoke.
