A mother daughter team is helping Southwest Virginians get fit.
SpaFit in Salem has been open 10 years. Stevie Long started the business with her daughter Teke Abshire on February 16, 2003.
Long was a nurse for nearly 30 years when she was injured and went to see a physical therapist. She says the experience inspired her to become a certified personal trainer and says the profession is similar to nursing. "We want them to think of exercise as a part of their lifestyle," Long said. "We treat them just like we would treat us, we take care of them--just like nursing. We're taking care of a bunch of patients and making them healthy."
SpaFit has expanded three times since it first opened. The personal training studio and fitness center is located at 1630 Braeburn Drive.
