Military veterans here in the Roanoke Valley are getting extra help for job training thanks to a state grant.
The Western Virginia Workforce Development Board received $250,000 to help veterans get job training.in high paying careers.
The grant money is expected to help around 40 veterans get training in high end manufacturing fields, paying for any books, classes, or certifications needed.
"There are so many vets returning that have very strong military skills but they don't always translate into skills that are needed here locally," Doloris Vest, President of the Western Virginia Workforce Development Board. "We're being able to concentrate on that group."
Vest said the goal is to get these veterans careers.
