Duke Police: No leads on who stole mascot head

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The culprits who stole the Duke University mascot's head remained at large on Friday, with the Duke campus police saying they have no leads in the case.

"There is no investigation or leads at this time," said Major Sara-Jane Raines of the Duke Police.

The Duke mascot head was discovered hoisted on a pike over the UNC Student Stores Wednesday morning in Chapel Hill. The head was returned to Duke in time for Wednesday night's game against North Carolina in Durham.

Randy Young of UNC Police said, "The only crime would apparently be possession of stolen property. It wasn't done on UNC's campus."

Young said the UNC Police are willing to cooperate with Duke if necessary.
