Commander of Norfolk based USS Kauffman removed from the job

Posted: Updated:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The USS Kauffman's skipper has been removed from the job due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command.

Cmdr. Corey Wofford was relieved of command on Friday. The Kauffman is a guided-missile frigate home ported in Norfolk.

The Navy says the commander of Destroyer Squadron 21 lost confidence in Wofford due to his poor performance. The Navy says that includes a failure to establish a culture of procedural compliance and his inability to correct identified deficiencies as directed.

Cmdr. Jennifer Couture has been tapped to replace Wofford. Couture previously served as the executive officer of USS Porter.

Wofford has been reassigned to the staff of Naval Surface Force Atlantic.
