According to an e-mail sent to parents, the situation began shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Friday. G.W. Carver Elementary School was called about a domestic situation involving a family with elementary age children.
The school notified the police department as a precaution, and began its lockdown procedures. School system leaders notified each other Salem elementary school as an additional precaution, and they put safety measure into effect to limit access. Salem Police also increased patrols at each school.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but police say they are "satisfied" that there was never a threat to the schools.
