Christopher Speight sentenced to five life terms

Police say it took three days for Christopher Speight to kill eight people and surrender to a Bedford County sheriff's deputy back 2010, and it took three years for him to be sentenced for what he did.

Speight's defense team felt it was in his best interest to plead guilty to all nine counts of capital related offenses. Including using a gun, shooting at a police officer and killing someone under the age of 14, which would carry the death penalty if found guilty.

Prosecutors say Speight told several psychologists why he decided to do what he did in that three day period. Speight says an Egyptian goddess named Jennifer told him Lauralee Sipe and Dwayne Sipe were demons and he had to kill them. However Speight says he did feel bad for killing their son and his nephew Joshua.  Speight than claimed Jennifer told him to kill everyone including police, however Speight didn't want to kill police and that is the reason why he says he surrendered. Following that story, psychiatrists deemed him insane at the time of the murders.

By pleading guilty for the eight deaths, Speight was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences.

"I think he will suffer more that way than how he will getting the death penalty and that is proper justice for him," says Stephen Carnarde.

Karen Quarles brother Stephen Carnarde put pictures of his sister on the stand to show what was taken from the families; loved ones. However Bo Scruggs' father Ronnie Scruggs, wanted the death penalty, and says now he is left with only memories of his son.

"For his smile and his laughter to make people laugh. That is what I want, but I can't have because he took it away," says Scruggs
