Time is up for an important position within the Roanoke City Police Department.
Federal stimulus dollars that are paying for a second crime analyst position will run out at the end of the month.
City staff will ask Roanoke City Council tomorrow to pay for the position through the spring, and then make it permanent with the next fiscal year budget.
The crime analyst position helps the police department analyze crime trends, important for such functions as its geographic policing model, which aims to put more officers in areas where crimes happen.
WSLS 10 will have more on this story tonight at 5:30.
