FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA -
From Morgan Donnelly, WSLS reporter in the field
Virginia State Police have charged two Franklin County Schools employees with trying to hire a hitman, to kill one of the suspects' ex-husband.
Troopers say 47-year-old Angela Robin Nolen, of Moneta, and 37-year-old Cathy Warren Bennett, of Rocky Mount, work at Sontag Elementary School. Bennett is a nurse at the school, and Nolen is a teacher.
Investigators tell us Nolen met with an undercover State Police special agent on February 19th, and asked the agent to kill her ex-husband, a 63-year-old man. Troopers say Nolen gave the undercover agent $4,000 in cash for the murder, and promised to pay an additional $4,000 after her ex-husband died.
State Police say Bennett helped with finding the supposed hitman.
The case began when a Conservation Police Officer with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries received a tip, and passed it along to State Police investigators.
State Police charged Nolen with solicitation to commit murder, and Bennett as an accessory to the same charge.
Officers arrested both women today (Wednesday, Feb. 20th). They are being held without bond.
