Local teens running successful business

ROANOKE, VA -

The Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council showed the 'The Startup Kids' documentary in Roanoke for a reason.

"It'd's really exciting and what we are hoping to accomplish is to inspire young people and show them they can do this too," Roanoke-Blacksburg Tech Council, Derick Maggard says.

The documentary shows the founder of Vimeo, a video-sharing site that gets 65 million views, started the business at 22-years-old.

The founder of Dropbox, a file sharing site that makes billions of dollars every year, was 21-years-old.

The founder of 'US Kids Care' and 'got 'noke?' is a 16-years-old student at Roanoke Catholic. Ann Clare Levy presented her business plan before the documentary showing to the RBTC.

"I started in 8th grade, I was the youngest with my friend Madison," young, business owner Ann Clare Levy says." "It was exciting, but it was a little difficult at first."

Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia is helping Levy and many other students in our become young entrepreneurs.

"One of the biggest things it's taught me is speaking skills because I'm going out and having to give presentations to major companies and their boards," Levy says. "I think that will help me a lot in the future."

Their business 'got noke?' sells speciality ornaments throughout Roanoke. The groups made about $19,000 this year in just three months.

A big portion of the profits from 'got 'noke?' goes to a charity Levy and her sisters started called 'US Kids Care.' They bring school supplies and other important necessity to kids in need in our area. They are making their business skills go a long way.
