Harlem Globetrotter stops by downtown Roanoke YMCA

ROANOKE, VA -

A special guest stopped at the Kirk Family YMCA Friday afternoon in downtown Roanoke.

Harlem Globetrotter "Buckets Blakes" talked to kids and showed off some tricks.

"You get to be more intimate with the fans and let them know that it's not just about basketball, it's about being the best person you could possibly be" said Buckets Blakes.

The Globetrotters try to get kids moving with their S.P.I.N.™ (Some Playtime Is Necessary) program. As the Globetrotters visit cities around the world they urge kids to get out and play.

They will play at the Roanoke Civic Center Thursday night. Tickets are still available.

Roanoke City Councilman Sherman Lea says proposing a pay raise for council members and the mayor is an awkward situation for them. The proposal currently on the table would increase council's salary by 28 percent. However council members are the only ones that can propose a pay raise; a request that hasn't been made in 10 years says Lea.
