Lynchburg group honors Purple Heart recipients

LYNCHBURG, VA -

Purple Heart recipients were honored Friday during the weekly Monument Terrace Troop Rally.

Eleven African American Purple Heart recipients gathered in downtown Lynchburg.  Organizers and fellow veterans wanted to honor them for their service during Black History Month.

Veterans were from Rocky Mount, Lynchburg, Nelson and Bedford Counties. All but one was from the Vietnam War.   Each veteran was given a special Purple Heart Challenge Coin.  They say it was an honor to be recognized.
