NRV spay-neuter clinic to take part in "World Spay Day"

CHRISTIANSBURG -

It is a case of "the early bird gets the worm" tomorrow at Mountain View Humane Clinic.

It is World Spay Day, and the first 27 callers in the New River Valley and the Roanoke Valley to make an appointment,  get their dogs spayed at no cost.

Leaders at Mountain View say it is a way to help push the importance of regulating the population of domestic animals.

"For every four animals that are fixed in a low cost clinic like ours, two to three animals will never show up in a shelter and so we can over time eliminate the need for euthanasia just for spays. We don't want to see adoptable animals being killed in the shelter," said Kelly Cass, with Mountain View Humane.

Leaders at the clinic say since our story more than a week ago, they received about $1,000 in private money.
