Private lab to look for DNA in 20 year old Aggie Albert murder case

Virginia State Police confirmed it has taken several pieces of evidence in the Aggie Albert case to a private lab in Richmond for DNA testing.

A passerby found Albert's body in the alley of her beloved Catholic church in Covington on Fourth of July weekend in 1992.

Investigators said she was murdered.

Fairfax Identity Labs in Richmond is handling the testing.

Shelley Johnson, a lead forensic scientist for the lab, said the testing process should take between four to six weeks.

Investigators said the simple fact the lab agreed to perform the testing is encouraging.

The lab specializes in finding DNA that could have suffered "degradation."

In other words, Johnson said, the lab can find DNA that's two decades old.
