Martinsville Police search for shooting suspect

MARTINSVILLE, VA -

The Martinsville Police Department is searching for a suspect in a shooting investigation.

Officers believe 18-year-old Delano Donte Cook, of Martinsville, walked up to a man on Friday, February 22nd at the Avalon Arms Apartments on Corntassel Trail.  The victim says Cook asked him for money.  The victim gave Cook money, then Cook grabbed the victim's wallet.  A fight then ensued.

The victim says Cook took out a gun during the fight, and shot him.  A witness drove the victim to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County.

Police obtained warrants for Cook on charges of:

  • Malicious Wounding
  • Robbery
  • Use of a Firearm during the commission of a felony
  • Shoot into an occupied vehicle
