Danny Crouse named Salem Police Officer of the Year for saving woman's life

A Salem police officer is honored with an award from his peers for going above and beyond to save a woman who was just moments away from taking her own life.

Last March, Detective Danny Crouse was patrolling the streets when he got a call that a woman was going to jump from this bridge onto I-81.

Crouse grabbed the woman, wrestled her to the ground and put her in handcuffs, saving her life.

Detective Crouse was voted by the police department as Salem's 2012 Officer of the Year.

"I was there that day I did what I felt I needed to do, any other officer in this department I feel would do that exact same thing.  That's what we train for, that's what we're here to do," said Detective Crouse.

"In this particular case I do think Danny can take credit for saving someone's life which is somewhat unique," said Salem Police Chief, Jeff Dudley.

It's pretty exciting for Chief Dudley to be able to hand out the Officer of the Year award since he won it back in 1981.
