McDonnell's success could lead to presidential attention

BLACKSBURG -

Bob McDonnell's success as Virginia governor could be paving the way for a national campaign.

McDonnell just completed his final General Assembly session as governor last week.

88 percent of his agenda passed in some form during his time in the governor's office.

According to WSLS Political Analyst Dr. Bob Denton that is one of the highest percentages in Virginia history.

Dr. Bob lists McDonnell's transportation reform package that passed last weekend as an important part of his legacy, especially given the bipartisan support it required.

Dr. Bob believes that puts the Virginia governor in the presidential conversation in 2016.

"If you look at some of the people who are looking at the future in terms of Republicans, certainly (McDonnell) appears in the top 10," Dr. Bob said. "On some of the lists he's in the top 8 of contenders and names that are out there."

McDonnell was considered a leading candidate to be named Mitt Romney's running mate in 2012, an honor that ultimately went to Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan.
