Danville's Piedmont Mall to change name, be renovated

DANVILLE, VA -

Major changes are coming to Danville's Piedmont Mall.

The company that owns the mall, Hull Storey Gibson Companies, LLC, announced on Tuesday that it plans a facelift and name change for the property.

The mall's name will become "Danville Mall."  Also, both the mall's interior and exterior will be renovated.

"The Danville Mall property has a lot of potential and by investing in property improvements we can enhance the overall shopping experience and attract new tenants," said John Gibson, Managing Partner of Hull Storey Gibson Companies, in a news release.  "There are very few mall renovations occurring in the United States and our proposed redevelopment plan and attendant investment speaks volumes of the potential we see here in Danville. We are confident the end product will be very appealing."

"Danville deserves an enclosed mall that reflects its potential as a city," wrote Jim Hull, Managing Partner of Hull Storey Gibson Companies, in the release.  "A revitalized mall reads a revitalized community to others considering relocating or investing in the Danville area. The fresh new look of the property and its new name underscore our investment in and commitment to the future of the Danville Mall. We want the name Danville Mall to emphasize our ties to the community because we strongly believe in the success of the Mall and the Danville area."

"We're delighted that Hull Storey Gibson Companies has purchased and is renovating the Mall," said Danville City Manager Joe King in the release.  "The Mall has long been critical to Danville's economy and the community's quality of life.  The transformation of the Piedmont Mall to a renovated Danville Mall will help us secure the city's position as a regional shopping hub."

The inside renovations will include:

  • New carpet
  • Restroom improvements
  • Escalators
  • Removing wood paneling from ceiling
  • Interior lighting improvements
  • Adding historical pictures in the corridors

The outside renovations will include what's described as a "minor face lift," landscaping, news signs, improved entryways.

The renovations are expected to begin this week, and be finished before Fall 2013.
