Roanoke students celebrate Read Across America

Today is Read Across America day, the biggest reading day of the year. Students across the country have special guests in their classrooms for Read Across America Day.

Students at Crystal Springs Elementary wore mustaches they created to look like The Lorax characters. Teachers dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.  Read Across America day is held in honor of the author's birthday, which is March 2nd.

Volunteers came in to read to classrooms across the city.

"Our readers today have been exceptional. They've read the Enormous Crocodile and Amelia Bedelia and the children are just entranced" said Cindy Robertson, the reading specialist at Crystal Springs Elementary.

Many schools across our area celebrated the day in various ways. Virginia Heights Elementary students and teachers dressed pajamas and at Garden City Elementary the Grinch even made an appearance!
