TRAFFIC ALERT: I-81 Montgomery County detours start Sunday night

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VA -

VDOT news release

On Sunday, March 3 and Monday, March 4, nighttime detours are scheduled for northbound Interstate 81 as part of the ongoing road construction project to build a five-mile truck climbing lane along southbound I- 81 in Montgomery County between mile markers 120 and 125.

Northbound detours will begin at 10 p.m. each night and end at 6 a.m. the following morning. Northbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 118 (Christiansburg) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns).

Dates and times are tentative and could be adjusted due to weather or work schedule.  Signs and message boards will be in place to alert drivers to these traffic detours.

Work on the truck climbing lane project is expected to be completed in November 2013.
