Elmwood Park improvement project on-time to be finished August 31st

Each day the Booth family walks by Elmwood Park to get home. One of their favorite spots in Roanoke is now closed and under construction.

"I just can't wait until it's done," Lucas Booth says.

The Booth's say they do see more and more progress on the park each day. They point out the crews finishing up the seats for the amphitheater bowl.

"A lot of people are saying it's going to be so much better and they can't wait for it to be done," Jennifer Booth says.

We turned to Roanoke City Engineer, Phil Schirmer to see if $4 million project is on schedule.

"We're making good progress," Phil Schirmer says. "The weather has been very kind to us and the contractor is very dedicated and is there every morning at 6:30 in the cold and has been working."

The improvement project is still expected to be done by August 31st, but the city is making some changes that will affect parking in the area.

The city is eliminating 27 parking spaces on Bullitt Avenue to build the new art walk, but they are creating 36 new parking spaces at different spots in the area.

"We don't think it'll have an impact on parking, but give us the space we need to install the art walk and rain gardens and I think it'll be a very appealing place for people to gain access in the park,' Schirmer says.

For now, the Boots along with many others in our community are anxiously waiting for Elmwood Park to be done.
