Roanoke City leaders formally announced on Monday afternoon, that the city has delayed the renovation to the City Market.
City Manager Chris Morrill told City Council that the city only received one bid for the project, and deemed it too costly.
The project will raise the street where market vendor stalls are to be even with the sidewalks, and perform maintenance underground for stormwater runoff.
Morrill says the renovations will be re-bid in the Fall, with the project delayed until at least after Dickens of a Christmas ends, with a hope of receiving a lower bid.
Downtown Roanoke Inc. plans to add some community grants to help pay for the project. Morrill says the delay will not cause the city to miss out on the grants.
