Salem welcomes new type of rehab center

SALEM -

A new rehab facility in Salem is offering customers a unique alternative.

Tuesday afternoon The Rehab Center at Richfield will cut the ribbon on its new $7 million facility.

It focuses on short term rehabilitation services with customers staying anywhere from a few days to seven or eight weeks.

Director Jon Royall said they're offering something one of a kind in Virginia because the rehab is outside of the nursing home.

"The Roanoke, Salem, and New River Valley areas, they're really rich in baby boomers," Royall said. "That population is really wanting some different alternatives than staying in a nursing facility."

The rehab facility can take care of up to 48 patients.

The ribbon cutting will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. with patients beginning rehab on Sunday.
