Winter Storm Warnings in Effect

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for areas along and north of Interstate 64.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Roanoke and New River Valleys and central Virginia.

Snow is falling east of the Blue Ridge and will continue off and on through the afternoon.  Snow showers are possible for the western slopes of the mountains with a few flurries blowing into the New River and Roanoke Valleys.

As of noon Wednesday, the heaviest snow has fallen along and north of I-64 with six to twelve inches on the ground.  Four to eight inches of snow has fallen from Buchanan to Phenix. Southward, totals have been in the one to four inch rain with trace amounts to zero in the Mountain Empire and Southside.

Winds will continue to be gusty this afternoon.  Gusts of 40 to 45 mph are possible.  With heavy, wet snow clinging to trees and power lines, power outages are possible today.
