Red Cross honors Ron Kotz as Military Hero for years of serving our veterans

Each year WSLS teams up with the American Red Cross to honor the people many of you consider your heroes.

First, we recognize our military hero Ron Kotz

After serving in the navy for 16 years Ron is now a Veteran's Claims Agent for the Virginia Department of Veteran's Services.

Ron's son, Kevin, nominated him for a heroes award after Ron arranged a burial for a local veteran with no next of kin.

He recalls what it felt like to stand at that service.

"It gave me a great feeling of satisfaction to see it through, but on the other hand it made me sad, because it gave me the realization that there's so many veterans out there that are buried without anybody to be there and a lot of them go unclaimed," Ron explained.

Until March 19th we will introduce each of the ten Red Cross heroes in our 6 o'clock newscast.
