Christiansburg bakery closing up shop

CHRISTIANSBURG -

Update: 3:20 p.m.

The company that owns the property where Grama's Goodies in Christiansburg is located spoke to WSLS today.

Management at Radford Auto Auction say the owners of the mom and pop bakery were behind on their rent.

Grama's Goodies owner Mark McNinney does not dispute the property owners claim and calls his business a victim of a bad economy.

The bakery and sweet shop is set to close their business on March 17.

The lunch rush at "Grama's Goodies" in Christiansburg was reduced to a crawl.

"They make the best chicken salad on Earth," said Anna Rossomando.

Some customers waited for nearly 45 minutes at the sweet shop and bakery for something good to eat from Grama.

"I love this place. They have the best cupcakes and blueberry muffins and cookies," said Taylor Helms

"Anytime we have people come from our corporate office in Denver, they say, hey, we heard about this place called Grama's, let's go, let's go," said Justin Baer.

But what workers called the longest lines ever were likely because the "Mom and Pop" bakery that has been around for more than a decade, is closing. Many people found out on Facebook where the company posted they were shutting down.

The property owner declined our request for an on camera interview but workers say the 15-year lease is up, and they'll close the door for good on March 17th.

We again checked the company's Facebook page and Saint Patrick's Day will be their last day. It also states the company has tried everything, but does not plan to relocate.

"I think it's sad but I guess it's time for them to go. I don't know what the situation is but I'm really going to miss them," said Rossomando.

"I'm shocked. It seems like it's been around forever you know," said Baer.

So you better come get your goodies now, because in ten days "Grama's" is going away for good
