Coach Mike Cartolaro and his Altavista Colonels ran past JI Burton for a 21 point victory in the Division I State Semifinals. The boys were led by Juan Thornhill's 14 points as the Dogwood District power advances to the state finals Friday afternoon at 3:45 against West Point.
Meanwhile Coach Debra Spencer and the Altavista girls team did similar damage to Clintwood to the tune of 58-46. They move into the finals where they will face defending Division I champ Rockingham on Friday immediately before the boys play..at 2pm. The girls actually trailed by one at the half...but they won the game at the free throw line. They were 42-55 from the line in the game.
